Why Everyone Should "Live In Motion"

Action, Process, Reaction, Repeat.

January 14, 2019

Motion. We All Need It.

The definition of motion is "The action or process of moving or being moved." The idea behind the Live In Motion blog was to help you, the reader, integrate your everyday personal affairs with the world of Dance. When that happens successfully, it should look a lot like the definition of motion. An action that causes movement, followed by the process of maintaining that action and finally, a reaction to that action from an outside force or even within the mover themselves.

Step 1: Action

Training harder. Taking a dance class. Creating a healthy habit. These are some of the actions that you may be inspire to do as this blog goes on, but regardless of what you do, action is a necessity. These actions are generated by a feeling within yourself. Dance is a passionate art so integrating it will infuse you with passion. However, if you don't feel deeply enough to act on something, on anything, you're probably one of two things: Dead. Or, allowing someone else, maybe just the general public opinion, to dictate how you live your life. Either way, you're not living at all, let alone living in motion.

Step 2: Process

As I wrote in the last post, there is a process that starts once an action is taken. Finding a Work Pace is necessary for consistency on the path you have chosen. Say you've chosen to reignite the passion you once had for dance. Learn from the dance world what goal setting would look like in your case. The ebb and flow of dance is constantly changing, so why not learn from it in order to embody it?

Step 3: Reaction

For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. When you choose to step out and add movement into your life, I guarantee there will be a response. A lot of times, it is from others. Peers not appreciating your change, scheduling difficulties, outcomes that don't manifest as quickly as expected, all of the things that stop people from motion. Stop people from change. The inertia of life. And if that is not the case, then you may get a reaction from within yourself. Self-doubt, self-consciousness, self-evaluation. The origin of these responses range from physical, to spiritual, to emotional. The only way to combat them is what got you here in the first place: Action.

Step 4: Repeat

Allowing two worlds to collide is a messy process. But be encouraged, you are not alone. There is always someone who has either gone through what you have and can mentor you, or is going through what you are going through and can walk with you on your journey. Isn't it easier to not change? Yupp. Can adversity cause strife instead of unity? Absolutely. Yet, people power through obstacles inside and outside the dance world every single day. It is always better to live in motion.
