Why We Need %$#@ing Clean Music

Do you kiss your mother with that mouth?!

My Beliefs

As a Christian, I believe we shouldn't say anything immoral (Eph 4:29) but instead speak life into ourselves and others (Probs 18:21). I intentionally infuse these beliefs into my dancing by not choreographing to vulgar music or using it when I teach. That being said, not everyone shares my beliefs. Let's step away from religion for a second and I'll explain why I don't use explicit music as a dancer overall.

Becoming the Music

As I state in the Personal Kinetic Curriculum, dancers are the visual representation of music. I refuse to use demoralizing music because as a dancer I would have to embody vulgar, negative, and misogynistic messages (to name a few) that would taint my art as a dancer.

Why would I want to become that trash?

Now, I'm not going to lie. Sometimes it's hard to only use clean music. However, it's also hard to be kind to people, to be creative, to be yourself, and to have integrity. But I'm not going to stop doing any of those things either.
