The Tyranny of Now
As dancers, we are constantly trying to get better: more stamina, more flexibility, more creativity.
However, what I've seen time and time again is the weak confounding the strong, parents learning valuable lessons from children, and novices showing veterans new innovations.
The tyranny of the now tells us that if we want to get better, it has to be now or it'll never happen (which is a lie) but what we don't realize is how much we can help our dance family by not being as good as we want to be... right away.
The goal is where you want to be, but the journey is where you (and everyone else around you) learn the most.
