Typecasting

I used to think I wasn't good at auditioning students because when I see someone perform, I immediately jump into instructor mode: "Ok. That was good but let's tweak this or that and see if you can do it better. It's time to grow!" But it isn't time to grow. It's time to see who already fits the spot we're looking to fill.

I avoided it for a long long time. Then, I was thrusted into the position of auditioner and I realized that typecasting doesn't just happen in blockbuster movies. We do it on a daily basis!

I'm the fun teacher. I'm the mean teacher. I'm the singer. I'm the dancer. I'm the one with no rhythm. We find a spot that is comfortable and stay there. But comfortable doesn't allow us to live out our potential. It just gives us a label.

Don't typecast yourself. You can do more than you imagine.
