At a... Loss for... Words.

· dance,down syndrome,students,Emotion,Lifestyle

I have a student with Down Syndrome who ADORES dancing but has certain auditory issues that makes speaking difficult.

In a recent lesson, he performed the Tin man's song because the Wizard of Oz is one of his favorite movies. I assumed he was going to just move to the music but it turned out that he had the entire dance memorized. With flawless timing, he recalled the choreography verbatim from the movie.

This student has trouble speaking... but only when it comes to spoken word. Is that really so different than everyday life?

Have you ever grasped for words to describe what you're thinking? Have you ever been overcome with emotion, yet don't know which emotions you are feeling? Learn from my student:

Speak with your body. It's more you than you realize.
